I felt challenged this week, if only due to the variety of photos required for the assignment; there was a lot to keep in mind. One positive outcome was the chance to putt around on my motorcycle in the nice weather with my camera slung over my shoulder, looking for things to shoot.
Most of my images this week are without implicit meaning. Most. For example, the drained photo of the trees standing tall amidst the debris of a recent logging job, I attempted to over-saturate the green of the remaining trees, while creating a feeling of washed-out grayness in the ruins of the forest now gone. In the enriched image of the yachts I attempted to emphasize the shear scale of these multimillion dollar behemoths in relation to the crew on deck (The boat was flying the flag of the Cayman Islands. Like their investments, perhaps the owners preferred an offshore ships registry to avoid cumbersome fees and luxury taxes.)
As far as light goes, I took advantage of what was available. I didn’t get out for any morning light. But the luminous photo assignment helped emphasize the benefits of otherwise bland daylight, as demonstrated by the shot of the slide.
Overall I continue to feel limited by my equipment — a single 18-200mm lens. A good overall piece of gear, but without coated glass.
